Final Ad

 This is my final submission

Here is the link to the google drive in case the video is removed from youtube. media final project

Classwork (camera, storyboard)

This is everything that we've learnt in class including theories, camera angles and shots, editing, mise-en-scene, and sounds.

Camera

Each member of the class had to create a mini poster showing how each camera angle looks, as well as the meaning and connotations for the shot. Below is a list of the angles we learned about:

Camera Movement

My teacher shared this video with us, it was very helpful when I was trying to remember all of the camerawork we used in class.

Camera shots:

Long Shot: Shows the full subject and setting.

Extreme Long Shot: Shows the subject from afar.

Medium Shot: Balances subject and setting, often used for conversations.

Cowboy Shot: Focuses on action, often used in Westerns.

Close up: Focuses on the face or details, shows emotion or importance.

Extreme Close up: Highlights tiny details and intensity.

POV: Shows a characters perspective, creates immersion.

Over the shoulders: Shows one character from another's viewpoint, creates connection or tension.

High Angle: Makes the subject appear weak or vulnerable.

Low Angle: Makes the subject appear powerful or dominant.

Dutch Angle: Creates unease or tension.

Establishing Shot: Provides location and context, often helps sets a scene.

Fixed

Camera remains static

Calm, peace, normal

Push in

Camera moves slowly toward subject

Brings the audience closer, more involved, getting more serious.

Pull out

Camera moves slowly away from subject

Takes audience away from the action, leaving a character. Detaching from subject

Pan

Side to side, camera fixed

Reveal information, mirrors natural head movement of the audience.

Tilt

Up and down, camera fixed

Same as pan, just a different direction

Dolly

Camera moves around freely

More immersive, we are moving inside the subjects world, we feel part of the action

Tracking

Camera moves around on tracks

Similar to dolly, but smoother.

Crane

Reveals the epic size of the setting, landscape.

Handheld

Camera is shakey

Very natural, immersive. High energy

Zoom

Zoom

Brings audience closer to budget. Draws our attention to something.

Sound

Description

Effect

Diegetic sound

Sound that can be heard by the characters within the media text.

Add a sense of realism. Reveal information to characters (and then audience)

Non diegetic sound

Sound that can only be heard by the audience.

Enhance meaning, create an emotional response in the audience

Trans diegetic sound

Sound that transitions from one to the other.

Creates a link between the audience and the world. More immersive

Sounds; non-diegetic tones

Description

Effect

Melodic

Positive and pleasing connotations

Enhances a positive scene. Create positive emotions in the audience.

Discordant

Harsh and unpleasant connotations.

Enhance negative scenes.  Create suspense, tension, anxiety

Contrapuntal

Has an opposite tone to the on-screen visuals.

Adds deeper meaning to scenes. Insight into the character's thoughts. Maybe they seek pleasure in doing bad things.

Storyboard

this is an example of the rough sketch of what were gonna do for our film.

Storyboards are helpful in film production becuase they give everyone an idea of how the film will look visually. It can also save time when shooting becuase the camera angles/movements have already been thought of. I tried my own practice storyboard using a short movie. Here is what it looks like...

Theories

Steve Neale Theory: Movies should be similar enough for them to be identified by genre, but stand out enough to attract audience.

Hypodermic needle and Two Step flow

Social Learning and Cultivation Theory

User and Gratification

Media Ownership

everything we've learnt in class has helped us greatly in our project making. it has enhanced our skills and given us a deeper understanding that nothing is ever done acidentally or without meaning. it has helped us analyse movies and also inspired us to do the same in our projects.

storyboard/script

this the script/storyboard

This was the actual storyboard for my groups media ad project.

The storyboard below was supposed to be the one we would've used, however we scrapped it and didn't use it, this is because we pretty much entirely changed our plans when it came to where to shoot, but looking back to it, I think it's because it was too complicated and we didn't have enough time.

With the storyboard, we managed to get ideas and have a clearer picture of what we wanted in the ad. However, we didn't go according to the storyboard, although some ideas were still done.

CCR: Creative Critical Reflection

here are my answers for the CCR

CCR1&2

CCR3

CCR4

this CCR will be used as a reflection of our project. i hope it can also be used to help our future projects as well so that itll be easier.

Behind the Scenes

this is the behind the scenes of our project shooting

We spent a total of 3 days shooting for our project. Although it was sort of a rush and I was worried we would flunk the project, we made it just in time and did better than what i expected.

Editing

This is our editing process of our media project.

first i aligned the clips together and picked out the song

i went with Can I call you rose by thee sacred souls. I aligned the texts so that it appears on beat with the intro of the music, its called cut to the beat.

for the coloring of the clips, i added a combination of filters and adjusted the brightness, exposure, highlights, temperatures. for around half an hour, i researched in tiktok to find inspiration for color grading to get the atmosphere that i am aiming for. I took inspiration from a video in tiktok.

For the song, we chose this song because of the vibe and atmosphere it gives which is calm relaxed and vintage. Because our theme is retro and wintage, we figured that the song specifically would help in getting us be closer to our wanted atmosphere.

for the last section of the audio, i wanted to make it muffled. However, it requires capcut pro which i do not want to buy, so i screen recorded the audio, then replaced the original audio with the screen recorded one.

for the font i had to experiment with different fonts and i decided to use the first one as it gives off more of a retro old tv vibe. The decision to put end credits is my idea. although most ads do not have end credits, i want our project to stand out and look further more like a film.

Mr nick gave us feedback and criticism about how some things in our ad doesnt ad up. so we took his advice and changed the intro as well as the ending. although i did like the sunset clip of the intro, i took it down and replaced it with the black screen. i changed the text to match mr nicks advice and for the ending i removed the credits.

although the editing was supposed to be done by bams and alex, im quite proud of my editing product. by doing the editing myself, i can create my vision to come to life myself instead of depending on the others to do it for me. the others did help me make several editing decisions though such as which font to use, the clips as well as any other altercations being done towards the video. overall im grateful to have my team and even if it seems like im doing everything, i couldnt have done any of this without my teammates.

Filming Schedule

This is our project filming schedule

SceneDate/TimeLocationPeoplePropsEquipmentOthers

Exploration 2 sceneZaturday? 24 aug2. Suluban beachGroupswimsuitmicrophone
Sagara does not consent to wearing a kamen. (
first aid kit

24 August
left sagaras house at 16.00
location closes at 16.30
our plans are a complete disaster but we managed and filmed our intro in the street and then went home

today i filmed several locations for our intro using my phone. i chose to use my phone instead of my camera because it has a stablizer which makes it seem more cinematic and of better quality, less shakey. we are forced to reschedule our shoot because we were 2 hours behind schedule. we are also thinking of picking a different location as an alternative as the entrance fee was quite pricey, with a total of 1.2 mill for the 4 of us. Although today wasnt as productive as we had hoped, we still made something out of today, caught a great view if the sunset for our intro and we went over some of our song choices for the intro.

i need to:
record the canera shot sound for the video.

sunday 1 sep, we were supposed to shoot but half our members cannoy make it so we delayed it till thursday.
we changed the location to legian beach because its free and has a wider time range

thursday 5 september. change of locqtion again to sanur beach and  gusdes house. we decided to shoot at legian
so far:
weve filmed the beginning at gusdes house, the cafe.
we filmed with my camera from the outside and used bams' phone for the audio. we made sure to have someone to be the clapper so that sorting the audio with the clip is easier.
we filmed the walk at the beach, going in and out of the mall, a traditional dance in the mall, and cafe scene.

a lot of things go against our plans however we made it work and did great also with the help of our other friend.we had to work with what we have. we planned our intro and our ending however we only stuck with our ending and did not include our intro. it turned out great though

Now we can be more aware in protective gear and minimize risk. we at first went to the hidden canyon. however it was expensive and at first it was closed. to increase efficiency we changed the location to a more accessible and convenient location that is the sanur beach and legian beach as it is nearer, open 24/7 but still has great views
